as part of the carburettor clean out, I’m also purchasing a heat shield as the one on the car seems to have deteriorated in the centre when the manifold comes down.. found an awesome seller on eBay who does a stainless steel heat shield that fits with some notifications he’s made to allow more airflow behind it, where the manifold sits looking forward to it turning up, and I’ll post pictures when fitted @ebay seller buyright777 A++

This morning i thiought i would get the old girl out for a quick drive about the town, she started 2nd time in the key after sitting for 5 months! Really happy with this, good engine and electrical system.
As i pulled out on to my drive i could smell petrol so popped the bonnet to find gas leaking from the over flow pipe on the1st Carbaretta !
Back in for a carb stip down as ive seen on the forum that debris can clog in of the fuel cut off jets. After taking off both carbs i found the fuel inlet jet with a slight amount of gunk in it.. Also noting the rubber seals where perished i ordered some replacements. Off the road now till they turn up on the 14th match

So not posted for a while as been super busy at work.
Front brakes making a smell of burning on my last drive out and today I got the callipers off and they look ceased plus the pads melted or look to be that way… posted on Facebook to get some advise if u should repair or change them. Very messy job this one but love it!

those calipers need a complete clean and over haul the pads are well past it check the disca for grooves and get them machined if needed I would completely rebuild the brakes as you need them to stop.

New pads and bleed valves / bungs on order luckily discs are all good

Well today was a day of learning for me on the MG.
I ordered in a poly bush front end set and 2x wheel bearings from MG-Hive, got them fitted today by Paul at PB motors in Hawkinge, awesome guy and his wife was great company whilst the work was going done, really nice couple!
So Paul is what I call a real engineer who knows his way stones and old cars, as I asked if I could watch and learn he happily talked me through some of the engineering replacing the bushes and also gave me a quick tour of the underside of the car that thankfully he says wasn’t in too bad condition.
On the drive home I could really feel the difference, not surprising the old rubber bushes were deformed and falling to bits.
Will be back with Paul again due a few other bits in the summer, really happy with the feel and running of the car now.

So took a look at the noise as when I blip the accelerator I got a rattle noise thought it was clutch thrust bearings but turned out to be the pulley (see picture)
Anyway after borrowing a power driver off a mate I got the nut off and found it must have been bad for a while as it worn partly thought the tread on the shaft…
Old pulley pictured and I’ll post the new one tomorrow.
Engine area much quieter but now can hear a slight whine when accelerating…

Today, I thought I would have a look at my timing as the engine was running a little rough on tick over and had to blip the throttle when at lights. Anyway with the newly purchased strobe timer or whatever we call it ,,, it was about 10mm further round than the markers, (view from front of car) and when I altered the distributor to bring it in line with the markers. It just got worse, so turned it the other way so now 15mm left of the markets, made the engine tick over much better and sounded sweet even drove with about 1/3 more power. The problem is why are these markers and the strobe showing that the timing is well off. I’ve posted on a couple of other forms to see if I can get any insight. Just an update, not sure why no one mentioned it but probably because you thought I had some idea.I removed the vacuum pipe from the distributor and it bright it back in line with the guidance given,,, thank goodness for that!!!Funny how every search didnt suggest check vacuum pipe disconnect and blocked as this with move the time well advance, it shouldnt be able to run that far out. Anyway it was at 20 degrees so flicked back to 15 now running sweat! Next job idle fluctuating to sort but not beholden I check the mix by lifting the floats to see if it peaks then drops or races that will need adjustingMore to come !
