Following on from my Teen years I became interested in Saabs and again had a collection over the next 10-15 years. I started with a 900EMS that was basically an Aero delivered vehicle. What a car.
Over the next years I purchased a total of 15 Saabs often owning two at once where I drove the new one each year and my wife drove the 1 year old car and I cycled them over. Saab Australia wrote an article on me as the most prolific Saab owner and over that time I clocked up some million odd miles and really without any breakdown. I think I was lucky!
I then moved on to Mercedes and have owned 5 new vehicles over the last 10 years
My latest and current drive car is the Mercedes 250 CLS Shooting Brake! What a super car.
However my days of cars aren't quite over.
I have just acquired a 1966 MGB in Marine Blue. This car has had three owners that I know of.
The previous owner died some 6 years ago and the car has sat in a machinery shed in the north east of Tasmania in the middle of nowhere on a farm and nobody knew it was there. It is in very dirty condition but otherwise in excellent condition. The gentleman who owned it died some 6 years ago and the car has sat unused since then.
In fact in the last 30 minutes I have just been called to my Mechanic who is looking after it for me, no other than Tasmanias best specialty car mechanic, David Short.
Since this morning he has simply changed all the fluids in the car and replenished them and assessed the car for road worthiness as well as a complete assessment for me. He had a list of just 8 minor things. Then we moved to actually starting the car and it immediately fired and ran smoothly from a long long rest of six years.
So now my work starts to clean it up and restore it to its original beauty, but I am just over the moon at what a great car I have found.
