I also have a 70 and the RAF badge was in the trunk when I bought it last year. I am having a hard time figuring out where all the badges are suppose to be. Do you know where everything goes? Any pics? I don't think the mirrors are in the right spots either. Anything would be of help. Thanks

Bryan - The hubcaps are the "dog dish" hubcaps that were used on earlier cars...and I added the chrome beauty rings. Neither is correct for the 1970 Spitfire, but I like the look much better than the correct wheel covers. When I get involved with shows that are judged on points, I have to put the correct wheel covers on!

This brings back memories. I bought my Spitfire Mklll new in 1970 in the UK. Damson with tan interior. All I have now are my memories and the sales brochure. I used to remove the passenger seat, and with top down I used to go for our Christmas tree in sub-zero temperatures. Fantastic heater - warm as toast. I have tried tracing the car recently with no result. You have a beautiful car. Thank you for posting.

That's an interesting placement for the rearview mirrors. The one on the passenger side is mounted over the wheel and the driver side is on the door. Is that the way they were original?

Ken - You've got a good eye for details! In the US, all outside mirrors were dealer installed, and that's the way the dealer did these. I love it that the passenger side mount is (somewhat) unique.

Haha....I do love the small differences in the cars that I see. The reason I noticed is because mine I installed myself and put both on the doors. I since have seen them mounted over the wheels which looks cool, but I always wonder if they are as effective. I love the hardtop and the added bumper guard and luggage rack as well. Really nice car. Is that color the original color? Mine was a "yellow" when I got it, but it was a backyard paint job and I had it painted a dark blue. In the fall, when I take the car off the road, I'm going to have it repainted and I'm considering changing it. I just haven't decided yet.

Thanks for the compliment.Yes, that's the original color 34, Jasmine yellow. It's actually a respray (single stage) that I had done in 1984, so it's over 30 years old on the paint job but still looks great.Some folks complain the fender mounted mirror is less effective, but I find it to be just fine.Good luck on your 1970...post some pictures when it's ready!
