Someone Said I Oughta, So I Did

Someone said I should create a journal for this build to possibly help others, so I will start posting items and see what happens. Don't usually like to post stuff about anything I am doing, especially till it is all done and beautiful (or at least runs)!

I reserve the right to discontinue if all this posting stuff becomes too much of a PITA.

Pics below are "as purchased" with a Miata 2.0 L from a 2007 Miata NC with 6 speed manual transmission.

Mounts And Frame Reinforcing.

Came with engine harness and inside harness, but needed front harness to get all required inputs into ECU. As received motor mounts shown in pic, but I opted for a heavier duty "fail safe" type mount and re-did them. There was no tranny mount, and frame needed a lot of notching and then reinforcing to make things fit.

R-160 Subaru Differential With GT6 MGF CV Hubs

Still in process on this. Just took GT6 rotoflex uprights down to a machine shop today to have them machined for MGF CV axle sealed bearings. Will then need to get custom axles from that into stock Subaru R-160 inboard CV.
Deleted transverse spring, going with adjustable upper arms and coil overs.

Setting it up on a cut section of rear frame with the intent to be able to just drill and bolt the resulting design into existing frame. Coil overs will go from shock mounting point on frame to the shock bolt that sticks out of the GT6 upright. Needs to be custom shock and spring to fit the application.

Steering Column Was Fun...

Of course, the steering column had interfere with the starter motor (or vice versa). Had to make a drop link steering chain arrangement.

5/22: abandoned chain arrangement, a bit too much play. Ordered 2 u joints and a section of shaft to do same thing. Pics as available.

Actually only need one u-joint. Was able to space steering wheel down from dash enough to make angle reasonable, but still move exit point through firewall down far enough to clear starter motor on Miata motor.

Wiring Was Fun...

Miata fuse box and relays, ECU. Some Spitfire wiring to rear front and rear lights, wipers, headlight switch, heater, etc hybrid.

All the lights, turn signals, horn, etc work. Still need to lay in a circuit for the door poppers and do some final clean up.

Starts Right Up And Runs !

Initially it would only run briefly. Had to do a little nutzing around to determine that the very temporary inlet tube I was using allowed me to install the MAF sensor backwards. Once I flipped direction, started and ran fine !

Tried to post a video, but file size did not allow.

First photo is of engine bay when I was first able to get it to start and run. The MAF sensor was just stuck in a scissor hole in a piece of corrugated plastic air inlet tubing. Other pics show cleaned up version of engine bay and bonnet closing properly over the whole mess !
