Creating this website has been on my list for about 7 years, better late than never??
Let me know what forums you'd like to see, I'm not really up to date on what groups are active in the vintage racing scene, or if the tech forums should be split up, etc
Open to any and all suggestions on the direction for this new website.
Happy racing!

A forum for the VSCDA group might draw some users. We ran four successful race weekends in 2020 despite the covid virus.

Done and done!
https://www.vintageraceforum.com/forum/svra-vintage-racing-forum.8/
https://www.vintageraceforum.com/forum/vscda-vintage-racing-forum.9/
I'm just sorting the forums alphabetically for now. I also posted a question in the NASA forum if anyone can educate me about their historic racing activities.
Thanks,
Skye

Over the long term, I'm not sure you will need or want separate club specific forums. I primarily race with VSCCA and it has it's own website with rarely used forums. Mostly we communicate through a VSCCA Facebook group.
My suggestion would be to try to first separate the forums between vintage and historic racing. Although I've never seen any clear definitions, I've come to believe that vintage racing involves cars built prior to 1972, while historic racing is for cars after 1972.
My second suggestion is to separate the forums by race group or class. Most of the vintage race organizations designate similar racing groups. For example, I run a F production MGA in race groups 1-3. I have little in common with someone running a big bore car in Group 6 or running with cars with wings and slicks in Group 8. And they have little in common with me. We are in completely different leagues.
But there are other guys running F production cars in other clubs and I might be encouraged to sign up for their events. For example, I can fairly easily run in groups 1-3 (or the equivalent) with VRG, VDCA and even SVRA on occasion. All these groups have one or more events each year within reasonable tow distance for me. I think there is a problem of dilution. What we really need as vintage racers is more cross pollination. I think that having forums devoted to a particular grouping that typically runs together can be beneficial.
I do enjoy and am active on the MG Motorsports forum. But I race in groups with a lot of Alfas, Triumphs, Minis and the like.

I agree with Jeff, forums should more about different car types raced in vintage over groups. Vintage racing Rules tried the group forums, and they never got any traffic, some of them going a year or more without a single comment. I gave Skye links to VDCA and SVRA because their sites define the different kinds of cars raced in vintage racing. If I were to make a short list, then maybe as time goes sub forums if one bunch dominates the car type forum, it would look a little like this.
Production sports cars, and this may warrant subforums right off the bat, because production race car is the bulk of the entries in a given vintage race event, also production sports cars can be anything from a H-Production 948cc Bugeye Sprite all the way to A- Production big block 427 Corvette, so maybe something more like this.
Small bore production sports car.
Medium bore production sport car
Large bore production sport.
Spec Miata and former SCCA IT vintage racing is a group that is growing and will continue to grow. Some of the purists might disagree, but most of us race the cars of our youth, and the younger people probably will not gravitate to racing the cars of their grandfather's youth, but rather the cars of their own youth.
Formula cars, anything from Formula Vee, Formula Ford (both very popular classes in vintage racing), and then larger displacement formula.
Sports Racers, cars like S2000, then small and large displacement sports racers as well.
Pre-war A dying group in most areas, but a group all the same.
These types of cars are what mostly encompasses what is raced in vintage, if I forgot anything, please jump in with suggestions.
Then a racing rules forum would probably end up being one of the favorites, and continuous forums, but hey as we all know debate breeds interest.
Also, this is a biggie, we need to have a forum for complete newbies who wants to go vintage racing, and learn more about it. Maybe title the forum, "So you want to go vintage racing? This forum could cover drivers' schools, and general prep rules, an introduction into vintage racing to a group that will have many questions.
Buy, sell and Trade forum, of course, vintage racers like to horsetrade. I would not make a big deal about individuals who want to buy and sell vs businesses who have vintage racing goods to offer, it all betters the sport, and it is all needed. Of course for you Skye and the community, I would do banner ads, and ask professionals to have gold memberships or above, this place doesn't run for free.
Video forum, maybe titled something like, "Show your favorite vintage car racing video" racers like to share and watch these videos.
OK, here's a curveball, but one I think would work, a forum that discusses how these cars were raced in the day, and that could be a title for it "In The Day, a look back to when these car were raced when new" Vintage racers love this stuff.
Of course an event page, where people post of upcoming events, results of those events, etc..
Race tracks, people love their race tracks and like to hear from others about these race tracks.
Also make model groups/clubs forums for groups like the MGVR (MG Vintage Racer) FOT (Friends of Triumph) , Covair racers, etc,, etc., these groups often have races where they focus event where they may have All MG races, All Triumph races, or they just converge on a given event in force. Some of these groups need a social media platform, be that platform. For example, I started the MGVR Facebook page and we got 200 members in less than 2 weeks.
In closing, there is no "one-stop" forum for vintage racing, and all it is anywhere on the net, and if anyone can pull this off, it is you Skye.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've completely changed to the forum structure from sanctioning body to general car classes. If I got anything wrong in the class descriptions or forgot any major vintage/historic racing classes please let me know!

Thanks for the suggestion! I already run a website devoted entirely to Cyclekart Builders and Racers:
https://www.cyclekartclub.com/
The Vintage Race Forum is intended more for sanctioned racing, especially vintage production and vintage formula race cars.
(quite a few Cyclekart builders such as yourself may have been included in the VRF notification email because your Cyclekart is marked "primarily used for racing" in the registry)
If you have any suggestions for improving the layout or structure of the Cyclekart Club website, please click "Contact Support" at the bottom of any page.

What about the growing Cyclekart Builders and Racers Foreum?
Most Cyclekarts are built on Vintage Racing Cars Format and the sport is growing
each and every year, with more events worldwide every year also.

Skye,
Thanks for putting this together. Having different forums for different race groups is a nice idea, but it is also important to have general topics as well that we all have interest in. Looking forward to getting some vintage racing in this year. Had to have a torn rotator cuff repaired recently, so my racing will not potentially start until at least July.
Good luck to everyone. Nice to see some familiar names here.
