  • Prepurchase photo of rust free trunk. Very clean.

  • The usual dings and cosmetic issues.

  • Some missing bits, but otherwise original engine.

  • Previous owner installed new interior.

“Rusty”
Jan 1, 2023:
Frame off restoration and engine overhaul are in progress. I expect this will take two to three years.

This is an ex-California car from Monterey. The previous owner was in the early stages of a restoration when he passed. The heirs put the car up for sale through a local used car dealer, who in turn listed the car on eBay..

The engine is currently not running, although I was told that it does turn. The battery, spare tire, and washer bottle are missing. Chassis photos show absolutely no rust, as one would expect from a southern CA car. I now know that the photos are misleading as JH floors rot from the top down because of the rubber floor mats.

Spares are less plentiful than for Triumphs, so restoration will involve lots of treasure hunting and swap meets.

Some good resources: Jensen Healey Preservation Society, Jensen Owners Club (UK), Martin Robey (UK) and Delta Motor Sports.

Jan 1, 2025:
The car has been repainted, and the suspension has been totally rebuilt. The trunk has been carpeted, and the interior trim panels and recovered seats are installed.

I have repaired and reinstalled the wiring, and replaced most of the instruments with reproductions. I obtained 4 new instruments for $40 shipped, but the new oil gauge is electric so I need to add an electric OP sender. I have begun the engine tear down, and obtained new high compression pistons from Delta Motorsports. I plan on installing a mild cam on the exhaust side to increase the duration and lift - this will give a broad flat power band as well as a few more ponies.

I obtained a factory 5 speed gearbox to replace the original 4 speed. The 5 speeds were installed beginning in the 1975 model year. The radiator was junk as it was filled with water and allowed to freeze - too many leaks to repair so it will get an aluminum radiator. The only reason the block is OK is that the freeze plugs had rusted through - so the block appears to be good, but I will have it checked for cracks at the machinist.
