“Toly's Car”
Anatoly Arutunoff of Oklahoma, gentleman racer, author, humorist and raconteur, ordered this car with alloy bodywork. Soon after receiving it he swapped the original engine for a 1340cc 109E Ford with intentions of racing it in the H Production class with SCCA. He raced the car in roughly 220 races from 1966 to 1989. He took first place at the SCCA Runoffs in 1973 but was disqualified. In 1981 he again took first place and was awarded the President's Trophy. This car raced all over the USA and was entered in the Runoffs at least 11 times. It also competed in the Chimney Rock hill climb several times, setting a class record there in 1968. A 1500 engine was installed in 1988 but the car was retired after it raced on one or two occasions with this engine.

It was green when new but was raced in black, white, "wood-grain" and finally its current "flesh" color.

I am the second owner and am currently recommissioning the car for vintage racing. I intend to retain the 1500 engine and race in F Production (very few cars now race in HP in my region). If all goes well I will rebuild the championship 1340cc engine and switch to HP.

I got to race against this car at Great Southwest in 77. He was blinding fast on the straight and my HP Bugeye was sorely outclassed. I was lucky and able to draft down the front straight and get far enough ahead on the backside so that when he came around, I could drop in behind him. That worked for the first 5-6 laps and then he dodged me and I lost him. At the end of the straight, I started reeling him in, and wonder of it all, he pulled off track with a mechanical failure. That was my first National and to finish first over the Moggy (even with the *) is one of my favorite memories from my SCCA years. Have funps, I'm over on the B exp if you want to say Hi, I missed you at Texas World a few years ago

Harry, it's great to hear from you. In '77 he was still trying to claw back his disqualified win at the Runoffs in 1973. Sorry to have missed you at TWS. Was I driving the red 1952 Plus 4 with the British Union Jack on the hood? I sold that car to afford Toly's and so I could race in FP. Toly told me that in the late 1980s the SCCA changed the rules and put the 1340cc 4/4 into FP so he switched the car back to its original engine size, the Ford 1500cc pre-crossflow.
