More Tinkering!
Posted on: Thursday September 8, 2016
Well, the car starts and runs great now, after fixing the choke linkage & adjusting the mixture. However, it still idles high, so I'll look into the timing soon. While investigating the no-grab parking brake, I discovered a leaking axle seal. The best part was discovering that the axle did not need to be pulled to replace the seal! I'll change the oil while I'm at it...
Choke Stuck

I'm getting closer to fixing the starting trouble. I was just pumping the gas pedal to assist in starting (which really didn't do much). Even without an accelerator pump, I think holding the pedal down allows more fuel to reach the carbs....? Anyway, it would start and need pumping to get established and up to idle "strength". Upon examination, I found the rear choke linkage sticky at the carb, and possibly the carb piston sticky as well. I cleaned things and lubed things and "worked"...
Tank Of A Car!

It's a good thing that I was able to drive a friend's 1960 MGA one week before I picked mine up. Manual steering & brakes were an interesting trip down memory lane. Had I not had that opportunity...I would probably have backed out of the MGB. After two weeks of cruising the back roads of central NY, I'm in love with my car! And I love hitting the curves...FAST! ...still not crazy about the braking...
