So as it happens, I'd had some considerable time to both work on the restoration of the No.24 Red Lion and to research the history of this prestigious race car. This time was made available due to plagues, possible world war and general apocalyptical events.
One of the paths I was following led me to the origins of the Gilmore Gas company. It was started by dairy farmer A.F.Gilmore who discovered oil on his property on La Brea Avenue in Los Angelos. Gilmore's son took over the company and promoted and expanded to the largest oil company on the west coast. The expansions and profits also led to the construction of Gilmore Stadium where midgets races were held and the original Farmers Market now stands.
His promotions included purchasing an airplane and he had aviator Colonel Roscoe Turner and a lion cub fly around promoting the Gilmore Oil Company.
The company was sold to the Socony-Vacuum Oil Company in 1940
which in turn was taken over by Mobil which I assume is the reason for the Pegasus decal on the rear of the Hudson.

In my research into the Red Lion, I have discovered my purchase and near to my heart "Barn Find" was actually a Hollywood recreation of a race prepped car of the Junk Formula era.
Imagine my surprise. Fortunately I did not have the amount of funds invested into the restoration as the original purchaser Baron Von Rudebaker III had spent.
None the less, I determined to forge on and completely rebuild the Hudson from the ground up. This restoration/build can be found on this forum under the heading Hudson Super Six.

Thanks Kelly, all part of the fun. Some of it tongue in cheek but some was interesting history IMO.
