It's been a while since I last posted here. Things are going great with the MGB. I had another bucket list year at Watkins Glen at the vintage weekend in September We had our annual Sports Car Festival yesterday and it was a perfect day weather wise and well attended by sports cars. I hadn't posted since last year since I had a bit going on health wise. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the late fall and had a prostatectomy in December. They caught it early thanks to my PSA testing. I am now cancer free. After a short period of recovery I was back to work in two weeks and back in the office after three weeks. So now I'm pretty much back to normal. Moral is to get your PSA tested regularly and don't be afraid to see a doctor if you need to.

Wow I haven't posted in my journal in a while! I have been out and about in the MGB with over 1500 miles since getting her out of storage this spring. Lots of fun activities with the car club. I've posted them on the what have you done with your MG page. Latest little thing I've done is change the spark plugs a few weeks ago and I noticed afterwards an odd push pull sensation on deceleration. I read up on it and after checking the dashpot oil someone mentioned checking spark plug gap as it can cause the situation I was experiencing. I had the plugs gapped about 25 thousandths and opened them up to 30 or 35 thousandths I can't remember but it did the trick.

MGCC Valve Cover Races

The a Western New York Centre MG Car Club held its annual valve cover races today. About fourty members were in attendance with about a dozen valve cover racers. Great time as usual! I didn't do so bad with my racer but the winner was Mike Goodwin who had revamped his car this year and won.

Robert Burns Day 2015

The MG Car Club Western New York Centre had a party at Macgrecgors tap room for Robert Burns birthday. We had dinner over a few pints and heard traditional bagpipe tunes from the Gates Keystone pipe and drum corps. Fun day!

I just got this photo in the mail last week, from Watkins Glen vintage festival 2015. This was from a different photographer and I spotted it on their website from a link provided by Watkins Glen stone bridge drivers. It took over a month to arrive. Its OURMG in the Glenkhana where we had to drive the course with a stuffed animal on the hood and not let it slide off. Not easy when I just waxed the car the day before!

I drove the MGB to work yesterday and today because it's so warm and beautiful out. We set a temperature record today at 78 degrees! I filled the tank with 91 octane non ethanol pure gasoline but it pings so I retarded the timing 2-3 degrees using the vernier adjustment on the dizzy.

My wife helped my put the hardtop on the MGB today. It's about 50 degrees today and has been in the low 40s in the morning so it's time. I enjoy driving the MG with the hardtop on as it transforms the car into a cozy little coupe.

Green Front Car Show

Today was the Green Front pub car show in Canandaigua New York. Weather was perfect and they had a DJ and plenty of food and beer. I enjoyed a local beer from Naked Dove brewery "Hopulous Localus". It was delicious to sip a beer as I looked at the other cars and met new friends. Good times!

Nedloh Brewing

Our MG Car Club Western New York Centre was invited to the first annual car show at Nedloh brewery in Bloomfield New York. Since its in my town I was definitely in. About two dozen cars showed up and mostly our club. We had a great time sampling their beer ale and food. It was a good day!

Watkins Glen Vintage Festival 2015

I had a great time at the vintage festival. Even without the race cars there was plenty to see and do. I entered OURMG in the Glenkhana again and we had fun as always. My cousin Ted was my co pilot this year. Lots of people attended again this year and there were a ton of Miatas as they changed the feature marque to Mazda after the track cancelled the races. Kudos to Hector wine company for sponsoring the event and hosting a morning breakfast before the rally to Watkins, and to Macguire Chrysler who sponsors and allows the use of their parking lot. Best of show for the Concourse d'elegance was a stunning Mercedes 300 SL that had been immaculately restored.

Spare Wire Wheel

I got my extra spare wheel sandblasted and primed at a local shop and today I am painting it. I paid $1 for this wheel at the last MG car club auction. It had a bias ply tire on it. Tuesday I'll drop it off at the dealership my son works as service manager and have him mount the tube and spare tire. I'll make up for the missing band (they took it off to sandblast) with layers of duct tape as I have on most of my other four wheels. Car is smooth as glass since I rotated the tires after having the speedometer fixed. My wife was maintaining 70-75 mph on the expressway the other day and remarked how easy it it to keep up with the traffic.

Boot Cleanup

My wife drove OURMG around today and I rode in the passenger seat. It's fun for her to take the wheel and she likes to drive the MG as much as I do! We went out to a restaurant and got a prime spot out front. When we went to leave there was a Morris minor woody behind us. Nice company for a beautiful summer evening! My wife tried to point out the owners of the Morris but I did not get to chat with them.

Spare Doors

I've had a bunch of MGB car parts hanging around the garage for years. Small parts are in milk crates and big parts are stacked in the corner. Why I held on to these rusty doors for a decade escapes me because they were not worth saving. So today I stripped them of all glass and useable parts and will take the door shells in for scrap.

Parade Of The Fleet

AKA cleaning out the garage! All that's missing is my Son's Dart and that was still in the garage! We have the week off so my wife has wanted some spring cleaning done. We started by cleaning small sections of the garage and getting ready to drywall a corner of the garage where she has installed a kiln. I cleaned out and rearranged many of my son and my car parts, enough to find several dead mice, a dead frog and one live mouse. Theoretically we are owners of a 57 Desoto Firedome (Hemi engine and trans) and a second '73 MGB, (doors, windshield, bumper, various parts) Both donor parts cars are rusted and dead, but the parts live on.

Car Wash Tales

Driving around this weekend I made an ill advised decision to take the MGB through one of those laser car washes. The last time I tried it with the soft top up it was a disaster and the water from the side high pressure wash easily breached the loose seal around the tops and side of the windows and around the doors so I ended up with a wet face and about a gallon or three of water on both seats door panels, dash and me. This time I had on the hardtop and I said, I wonder how it will do? The answer is much better, but the high pressure spray still forces some water past the seal top of the window on one side and between the vent windows meet the windshield. Everywhere else was good. I was mostly dry but my left pants leg was wet and water dribbled down inside of the windows and onto the door panels. But its clean and runs great.

I used a ten year old iron on Tee shirt transfer on my 30 year old car cover to help me find the front easily. The stamped on "front" had faded on my cotton Wolf car cover so it was time for something new.

Took the Mini Cooper to the MG car Club steak roast this Sunday and bought a BS Levy book and a seriograph poster of Jackie Stewart in 1970 Tyrell Ford. Good food and friends while we wait for warmer and salt free roads. Guess we got signed up to go to Stowe for the British Invasion this fall, if we go we will probably take the Mini.

MG Club Valve Cover Races

The Western New York centre MG car club held our 2015 valve cover races today. The winners were a mix of small bore and big bore cars based on wheelbase. My wife raced our car as I was acting MC for the event. Our car ran middle of the pack but it's all for fun so I didn't mind!

I just got back from work and snowblowing a two to three foot drift in my driveway. Its 5 degrees out with a wind chill well below zero. Needless to say the MGB is hibernating with my son's Dodge Dart in our garage for the duration. No winter projects this year, as last years engine rebuild took many of my projects off the list. We have our MG club valve cover races coming up and I'm going to dust off my racer for more action in a week or so.

Happy Birthday OURMG

Sometime around this date 42 years ago, December 1972, at the MG factory in Abingdon England OURMG was assembled and the little car we have loved so long was born. We've owned the car for almost 32 of those 42 years. After 60,000+ miles, many replacement parts, three sets of tires, two repaints, one major accident and a fresh engine rebuild this past spring our Little Brit Car will go on for at least 42 more years!

Ready For Winter

We did a partial cleaning of our garage this past weekend and got rid of stuff we've been hanging onto for ten years but never used. We also rearranged things so we could get all four cars in for the winter. We always have had the MG and Dart in one bay, but now that I have a Mini we were able to fit it in with my wife's Jeep on the other side! I can easily get out the snowblower too. Ready for snow!

Salting The Roads In Upstate New York

I just returned from a week long business trip to Phoenix AZ with sunny days in the 80's, to find Upstate New York with light snow and temps right around freezing. They salted the roads quite heavily Thursday and Friday so that puts an end to this season of MG driving for me. I didn't get to start this season until Memorial day weekend when the car was back from the shop with the new clutch and engine rebuild. I've covered about 2500 miles this season, and would have happily done many more since the engine rebuild went so well! Meanwhile I'll be enjoying my new ride, a brand new Mini Cooper S Countryman All 4.

Oil Change

Dropped the MGB off for an oil change yesterday at the shop that facilitated the motor rebuild and new clutch. Last check over from the engine rebuild this spring. Had a small coolant leak at the temp sensor. She is running great. But I got caught in the rain on the way home from work.

Fall Day

It's a gorgeous warm fall day in the Finger Lakes region of New York. I had a fun drive with some color showing on the trees on my way to work. Brilliant sunshine is filling our skies . MGB running sweet, I noticed some pinging under load at low RPM so used the vernier adjustment on the distributor to dial it back one degree retarded. Didn't notice any pinging now.

Fall Is Here

I drove OURMG to work on a beautiful fall day! About 2300 miles since the engine rebuild and I have a little coolant leak around the thermostat, but otherwise drives like a champ and all's well. Its not too cool out yet and that's good because this MGB heater does not put out much. I had a '71 MGB back in the day that melted the sole of my shoe it would get so hot with the heat on. Here is OURMG parked next to my latest addition to the stable.

New Addition To The Stable

I didn't mention it until now but I've traded in my beloved Jeep Wrangler for a new Mini Cooper S Countryman ALL 4! What a sweet ride and I am enjoying the benefits that come with a brand new vehicle. Lots of fun on the twisties, great acceleration and great on gas too! So now I have been having to decide which car to take the MG or Mini?

Log Cabin Cruise Night

My first time this year at the Log Cabin for cruise night and it's after Labor day! About 14 cars from our Local MG car club agreed to meet up there and it was impressive! Great time and great tunes and food.

Temperatures in the 50's for the past several days here in the Finger Lakes of New York. We put the hardtop on the MGB today! It's getting easier each year as long as we remember to havevit slid all the way forward on the back deck hooks!

I love this photo of OURMG with Danno and I going through Milliken's corner at Watkins Glen 2013 Vintage Grand Prix tribute laps. I ordered this print last month and of course we went again this year. I didn't use the hardtop this year as it was too hot but already its cooled to mid 60's so we will be installing by this weekend!

Saying Goodbye To A Friend

Sad goodbye to long time MG Car Club friend Bob Tescione yesterday. His funeral included his red 51 Morgan parked out front, along with MG club and Morgan club cars. Bob had a short 6 month battle with the Big C. His wife Annabelle and Bob had a party for him shortly after his diagnosis so many friends and fellow club members were there on April to share our friendship while we could. Glad we did.

Packed Cruise Night

Made a quick stop at the Basin cruise night with the B on my way home from work and chatted with some friends. It was a beautiful night and the place was packed. I got parked in overflow and that was soon full.

UK Car Day 2014

I took OURMG to UK Car Day 2014 Sunday. perfect weather, but oddly lower turnout than last year. Still almost 100 beautiful LBC's and lots of friends to chat with. Car ran great and effortless on the highway to and from the event. Now about 1800 miles since the engine rebuild.

MGs At The Cruise Night

Met up with a half dozen MGs tonight at the local cruise night. Parked next to a guy named Rob who had driven his 73 MGB over 5000 miles on US rt 20 from Boston to Oregon and back. Nice time swapping stories with the guys.

Great Day For A Drive

Beautiful summer day! I worked a half day so took OURMG to work then drove to a local micro brewery for a tasting! About 1400 miles since getting her back Memorial Day weekend from the engine rebuild and clutch replacement. Running sweet and averaging 25 MPG. It really is so fun to drive. I recently saw a listing for a restored MGB that had less than 500 miles on the rebuilt motor and was driven less than 1000 miles a year. That made me sad since these cars are so fun to drive they should be enjoyed!

Rev Inn At The Basin

The cruise night at Rev Inn at the Basin was packed tonight. I took OURMG to work today as it was a beautiful day. After work I then stopped by the cruise night and parked across form MG car club friends and next to a high school buddy and his Factory Five Cobra replica. Great turnout but hot with temps in the 80's and humidity to match!

Took OURMG to Cruise Inn At The Basin yesterday and had a blast listening to the girl group "It's my party". They have costumes and do all the moves and songs of girl groups from the 60's. Several MG car club friends were there and I also ran into several friends from my High School days!

Well it was a rainy day all day so the show was small. We ended early about 1:30pm due to the weather. The hardy brought out their cars. Some fun was had but mostly it was wet!

Canandaigua cruise night is packed tonight. After we ate and we were there for an hour we noticed Rod and another friend there with their MGBs so I moved OURMG over next to them! Handed out MG club car show flyers too. Ran into many old friends there!

Nice Weekend To Own An MG

I took OURMG to visit my parents this weekend. Sunshine and temps in the 70s. Car ran beautifully but for minor pinging in fourth gear when climbing a steep long hill. Now about 800 miles since the engine rebuild, about 40 miles just today.

We took OURMG to the Sand Bar in Canandaigua and met some friends for dinner. Beautiful night. My wife drove so I attempted some photos on the way home but it was pretty dark, so here's a shot of Canandaigua lake and Squaw island.

Yesterday I had the break in oil changed, valves adjusted and head bolts retorqued. OURMG is running beautifully with about 600 miles on the rebuilt engine . Today I'm enjoying the nice sunny day.
